Cheers to dad

I made this card for my Father-in-Law for Father's day. I was browsing through the Twisted Papers website and found this totally fun image -- how much fun is that? My FIL is not a card-lover -- he really just throws them aside -- so technically I made this for me and the other people who will be around when he opens it on Sunday. I DO think he will appreciate the image, though!

The Patchwork Background (June 2010 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter) uses a Stampin' Up! Stamp in the background (and inside the card), and a Starving Artistamps stitching stamp. Inside the card is this:

and I couldn't resist adding just a bit of flocking on the foamy top of the beer glasses, both on the front of the card and inside. Oh -- don't forget that Technique Junkies receive 50% at Twisted Papers with the code TJ50 until July 31st, too!

Cheers to him -- even though he is not a card-lover, he is a GREAT father-in-law -- and I adore him!

Weekly Giveaway -- Starving Artistamps!

Sometimes, two things just go together. Take, for instance, the Pieced Zines Technique from the February 2010 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter.  It just SCREAMS for stamps that have large open areas. Then take Starving Artistamps Boudoir Stamp set (below). That just SCREAMS for paper piecing.  So let's give them away together!
A match made in heaven, wouldn't you say?  The curtains in my baby's boudoir were cut from a Prima flower ad. The rest of the pieces were colored with copic Markers and they were all layered on cardstock from The Paper Temptress. The Baby and the saying are from the "Oh Baby" Starving Artistamps Doodlefactory set.

Starving Artistamps always has free shipping on orders over $65.00 to the US and Canada -- some restrictions may apply (they are HERE). There are so many sets here that just call out for the Pieced Zines Set. Go take a look at the Doodlefactory line -- they are ingenious!

To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment by Monday, February 15th at 9am EST. Let me know which of the sets inspires you to try the Pieced Zines Technique! The winner will be selected on Monday morning (02-15-10). Make sure that you leave enough information so that I can contact you to let you know you won. Just a reminder that Blogger does NOT leave me your email address. A great way to do this is to leave your email address in a spelled-out way, such as "p huntoon at optonline dot net." I will use my handy random number generator to pick the winning entry. You do NOT need to be a TJ subscriber to win. Good Luck!

The winner of this set is Susanstamps! Congratulations!

One Martini, Two Martini, Three Martini, Floor

I have had one long week. Seriously. Really long. Lots of hours. It was a great week, mind you, but long nonetheless. So it is Friday. And my DH makes one-heck-of-a-martini. So tonight, I am going to leave one of these two cards next to his spot on the couch. Think he'll get the idea?

This first card was actually made from the Blogger's Challenge sketch 103 (from the sketch on the right). I used the Altered Designer Paper Technique (April 2009 issue of the TJ Newsletter) for the background paper because the original paper was too bold (actually, I altered the altered designer paper technique -- does that make it an altered altered designer paper technique? or altered squared? but I digress...). I didn't put a stripe up the center of the left panel, either, since I used striped paper. The stamps here are from Stampin' Up! and were colored with Copic markers. And you can't really tell by my picture, but I have the numbers in cuttlebug texture on the left side of the card. Get it? One Martini, Two Martini....
This second card uses the Van Gogh Technique from the June 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. The martini stamp from Rubber Romance was also colored with Copics before I "Van-Goghed" it. (The "Cheers to you" stamp is from Stampin' Up!). Do you think that if Mr. Van Gogh had tried a martini to chill out that he might not have lopped off that ear?
In any case, make sure to enter your try at the Van Gogh contest -- you only have until the 15th to enter!. Either post your entry to the Technique Junkie List or by directing me to your artwork by leaving me a comment on this BLOG POST (<---click that link). You can double your chances by leaving Tracey at Starving Artistamps a comment on her BLOG POST (<---click that link) telling her that you entered via the TJ e-group, or directing her to an online resource. Enter in both places for your chance at the free one year of the newsletter and the stamps -- two winners will win both!
And make sure that you take a minute to visit the other Blogger's Challenge Players -- they are fabulous!

I am very excited to announce a new contest in partnership with Starving Artistamps!
As announced in the June 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter, we are partnering with Starving Artistamps for a contest and giveaway this month -- times two! You will have TWO chances to enter the contest -- one on this blog, and one with Tracey at Starving Artistamps.

The stamp set below is an exclusive from the Doodle Factory Collection at Starving Artistamps. It includes ALL the stamps from the DoodleFactory Oh Baby Collection, The DoodleFactory Baby Sentiments Collection, the DoodleFactory Super Parents Collection and the DoodleFactory Neighborhood! There are a whopping 35 stamps on this special collection stamp sheet (click on the image below to see it in more detail):
The card at the top of this blog uses the Van Gogh technique with these DoodleFactory stamps to create this Super Daddy Card. All of the DoodleFactory stamps are great Irene Silva's fun and easy technique!
Here is how you enter this contest:
Create a Van Gogh card using the Van Gogh Technique from the June 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. Subscribers will find the directions HERE by clicking on the June issue with their password or in the paper newsletter issue. You can use any stamps, from any stamp company, to create your Van Gogh card. Do make sure to check out the Van Gogh Subscriber-Only Artwork Pages, though -- you will find plenty of inspiration from the Starving Artistamp and Technique Junkie Design Team Members.

Then write a comment on THIS post with the URL showing us where the card is. Please make sure to put the words: "Van Gogh contest" in the title of the post so that we can find it easily. If you have posted to the TJ group, just state the date of your post so that I can match it up with your blog comment. If you posted it to your blog, simply leave the blog address in your comment with your name.
After you do that, enter the contest on the Starving Artistamps blog in the same manner, by posting a comment with the URL to the SA blog contest announcement post. You have now successfully entered the contest twice, and you have two chances to win!
You may enter up to two separate cards on both blogs, but each must use different stamps. All cards must use the Van Gogh Technique.
The contest winners will be drawn June 15th. Winners will be notified via blog posts. This contest is not open to Technique Junkie or Starving Artistamps Design Team members. All of the posts will be placed on a public page on Technique Junkie Website at the end of the contest so that everyone can see our collection of work.
Let's see your Van Gogh creations!

The technique was inspired by a card sent to me from Claudia Phillips.

The front of this card uses the Two-Toned Crunch technique from the December issue, too. If you are a Junkie, go take a look -- the link is live (make sure to refresh your screen for the new images).

Happy Halloween!

Today's Blogger's Challenge was to create a Halloween card. I have to say -- this was tough -- it is my last Halloween card this season!

In any case,I chose to make a spooky background using the Distress Dragging technique from the February 2007 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I placed my glowing skeleton (Stampendous) over that...added a stitch stamp (Starving Artistamps), my greeting (Inkadinkadoo) and added a brad...Spooky!

Oh, I just have to share one more thing? What do you get when you have dolls glued all over a sweatshirt?

A Chick Magnet!!!

Happy Halloween!

Blogger's Challenge #51 - Color Combination

Today's Blogger's Challenge was to use the color combination of Green, Pink and Turquoise. While I was tempted to grab some flowers, I have been drawn to these cool stamps from Starving Artistamps all week long.

I just kept thinking that I wanted to turn these Doodle Factory: Urban stamps into something girly. Cool, hip, phun and phunky girly. Hence my creation today!

Originally I had hand-wrritten "Girlz-Rool" in the banner, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I stamped this saying from Close To My Heart. In any case, I colored it all with Copic Markers, I am working on perfecting my technique in using them, so bear with me. Heck, I even dug out a cloud stencil!

Check out the entries from the other BC players, listed in my sidebar.
Hope you have a phun weekend!

TSSC21: Doodle Factory Urban

Take me to your leader.....

I have to tell you that the entire time I was making this card, that was going though my head! These outrageously fun stamps are from the DoodleFactory: Urban stamp sheet from Starving Artistamps. I was at a stamp show on Saturday and got this -- I just love this sheet and couldn't wait to play with it!

I colored my robot scene using the Marker Water Coloring technique from the June 2008 edition of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I think it is remarkably similar to the look achieved by coloring with Copic Markers (I have more of those, now, too, thanks to Saturday's shopping spree). It's alot easier, and alot less expensive, with regular markers, though!

The strips on the background were done using the Polished Rainbow technique from the April 2007 issue of the newsletter, and I did a little Rainbow Strip Flip Technique on the pieces (from the June 2005 issue of the newsletter). The spaceship is popped up, and the robot is popped higher than that -- it is very dimensional in person. It's a tiny bit glittery, too -- I added accents with a gelly glitter pen -- but they didn't up with the picture.

One last thing. The original sketch is in a different orientation. This is how I see it:

And this is how it was originally planned:

One of these days I will do them as they are intended...Check out Mary Jo Price William's site for the other players -- she updates it all week.

Well, that is how I was with the flower stamps on the sheet of rubber from Starving Artistamps in today's giveaway. Technostamper Sketch 6 - Two cards

Sometimes you have to just do some things twice to get them right. This was one of those times. These two cards are my submissions for Mary Jo Price William's Technostamper Sketch Challenge #6.

The card on the right uses ribbon, designer paper, and one of the scallops from Stampin' Up!'s So Many Scallops set. The White strip is Cuttlebugged, with a swipe of pumpkin pie. The edges of the Orange Designer Series Paper use the Faux Stitching Technique from the April 2006 edition of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I do like the big grommet in the center of the scallop, but the rest of it seems so "blah" to me...so I made the card below with the sketch, too.

The card on the left uses a Butterfly stamp from Starving Artistamps, layered over a Veined Marble background (Technique Junkies August 2007 issue). I actually like this card better -- I love the gold accents and I really just love the butterfly, too. I added a piece of corrugated paper and a big bold brad to spice up the denim look on the blue strip -- and did a little faux stitching here, too.

Although I like this card much better, I still don't think I nailed it. I can't wait to see what the other players do -- check out Mary Jo's blog to see them all!

The original sketch is below, in case you want to play along...
