Burnished Doily

This Emboss Resist card (*see note below about this technique) was inspired by a card made by my friend Nancy Hill. Nancy's card (Look at it HERE) uses the SU Medallion stamp -- because Nancy HATES doilies. When stamping with her, I took the position of advocate for the Hello Doily stamp set... This card was the result of me trying to convince Nancy that the doily does have redeeming qualities (it is not just for Grannie's armrest anymore!). Nancy ALMOST likes this card; in her words "I would really like that if only it didn't have the doily on it..." Our aesthetic disagreement will most likely continue...

Nancy lives in California. I live in Connecticut. Nancy comes here for 6 weeks every summer. she looked me up 3 years ago -- and every year since, we have come to appreciate each other more and more. It is rare to find beautiful people in this world; Nancy is one of them. I am proud to call her my friend.

Plus...she makes me laugh. That alone is priceless!!

*About the Emboss Resist Technique: I have a tutorial already done showing how to use it. I had planned on posting it on my blog here -- but have not posted it because I think most people know how to do this. If you would like to see this tutorial posted, please leave me a comment and I will get it online within the week :)

Tribute to my mom...

My mother passed away a little more almost exactly 5 1/2 years ago and I miss her greatly. She warmed the world with her smile...  She was kind, and believed that you should never say anything bad about everyone. I miss her greatly, as do my five siblings and father; scores of cousins, aunts and uncles, along with her many friends. She brightened everyone's worlds.

So this card is for you, Mom. You helped me become the mother I am; I have often looked to your words for dealing with my own children. I miss you horribly.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone. And thank you to my children, who are so sweet and have worked so hard to make this a special day for me!

Do you live near Stamford?

On Saturday, 10-17 I am having a tag sale -- and I am selling tons of stamps and scrapbooking supplies, along with other personal items. If you are close to Stamford CT and would like to stop in and say hello, please email me for my address and I will send it to you.

Lots of deals on my stamps -- I really just need to make more room! Hope to see some of you there...

BC-87 Duotone Resist Inspiration

Sometimes things inspire you immediately. Today's Blogger's challenge was to use the bedding in the picture on the left as an inspiration piece. As soon as I saw it, I knew EXACTLY what I was going to create! That bedspread is a perfect piece for the Duotone resist Technique (February 2009 issue of the TJ Newsletter. The background stamp is from Stampin' Up! and the floral and word stamps are from Innovative Stamp Creations. Here is my creation:
I think what I like the most about this technique is the subtle variations of color that are achieved with the brayer. It is hard to tell in the picture, but can you see the fade from rust to orange to rust to burgundy? It is really pretty IRL.
Okay, now, back to eBaying my stamp sets! I put another bunch on today -- hopefully I will put more on tomorrow and be done with it for a while...thanks to all of you who stopped by and looked in the last two days! Here is my profile again, if you are in the mood for shopping : )

A personal note & a card, too...

I don't like to do this normally, but I have two things to post along with today's card.

First...I have a ton of sets on eBay that I am selling -- and more being put on every day. You can find them HERE. Please take a look if you feel like shopping! I need to make some room : )

Second, some of you may remember that I had to put my dear dog down at the end of the year. I have been very lonely, and just this week we decided to adopt a dog from our local Humane Society. Well, we hit the jackpot! Ajax is a 2 year old American White Shepherd and he is a mush -- loving, sweet, spunky -- and to top it all off, SOMEONE trained this dog very well. I am in love already! Here he is in all his glory:

Okay, now for today's card:

This card uses the Duotone Resist Technique from the February 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter as a background. The stamps are from Innovative Stamp Creations. Enjoy!

Technique Blitz: Happy Birthday to Ian...

My baby boy is 15.

This simple Pearlized Gesso card (August 2008 Technique Junkie Newsletter) was made for him. He is totally awesome, and I didn't need to add alot of fru-fru to tell him so. My background was made on black, with a cool result, I think. I know he will like it.

So happy birthday to you, my 6'4" 15 year old gorgeous baby boy.

All stamps: Stampin' Up!

A personal note...

I think I have mentioned this once before, but if you have any weight struggles and would like to watch my journey and travel along with me, I have a weight-loss blog dedicated to it. It is HERE.

Okay now, back to your regular programming : )
