Burnished Doily

This Emboss Resist card (*see note below about this technique) was inspired by a card made by my friend Nancy Hill. Nancy's card (Look at it HERE) uses the SU Medallion stamp -- because Nancy HATES doilies. When stamping with her, I took the position of advocate for the Hello Doily stamp set... This card was the result of me trying to convince Nancy that the doily does have redeeming qualities (it is not just for Grannie's armrest anymore!). Nancy ALMOST likes this card; in her words "I would really like that if only it didn't have the doily on it..." Our aesthetic disagreement will most likely continue...

Nancy lives in California. I live in Connecticut. Nancy comes here for 6 weeks every summer. she looked me up 3 years ago -- and every year since, we have come to appreciate each other more and more. It is rare to find beautiful people in this world; Nancy is one of them. I am proud to call her my friend.

Plus...she makes me laugh. That alone is priceless!!

*About the Emboss Resist Technique: I have a tutorial already done showing how to use it. I had planned on posting it on my blog here -- but have not posted it because I think most people know how to do this. If you would like to see this tutorial posted, please leave me a comment and I will get it online within the week :)

beautiful card. I must admit I didn't care for the 'doily' at first but am really liking it and mine arrives tomorrow. What did you use in the center of the doily...from what stamp set?
Thanks for sharing.

Pat, love your card, doilies are harmless little things, my grannie taught me how to tat when I was around 10 years old. Never made the stuff she did but I can appreciate the art work. Love the technique you used on your card, is your friend in No Cal or So Cal??? Hugs, from the freakin' desert, Rose

Hey Pat. At first I wasn't too sure about the Doillies stamp sets but after seeing some of the cards that have been made with them I have changed my mind and have both sets on my wish list.

I'm old and I love doilies, besides this is gorgeous! However, I must admit that Nancy's medallians, especially the "rock & roll" technique one are a #1 competors. Y'll keep 'um comin'. A down-south stamper, Barbara from LA

I'm sure both you and Nancy heard the loud THUD that came when my jaw, pushed by my head from the pressure from my wide eyes, hit the counter top when I fist saw this card. This is painfully gorgeous!

Pat, I, too, was one of the non-Doily-ers....until I started seeing some of these lovely resist techniques. Yours, especially, makes the doily look SO real! Fabulous job!

I don't have anything against doilies, but yes, they do remind me of my mom and grandma. I wasn't going to get this stamp because I just couldn't see using it often enough. This card has changed my mind!!! It's beautiful! The stamp is now going on my list. :)

I'm not much for doilies on furniture, but on your cards they are awesome.

Beautiful card Pat! I love doilies and have crocheted quite a few over the years. My Grandmother taught me many years ago.
